Summertime bonfires. does it get any better than that? Oh yeah it does, when you add that perfect dessert: S’mores! And even better, Gourmet s’mores!Gourmet s’mores are a newer trend, but traditional S’mores have been an American summer staple for almost 100 years. The first written mention was back in 1927:

The first published recipe for “some mores” was in a 1927 publication called Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. Loretta Scott Crew, who made them for Girl Scouts by the campfire, is given credit for the recipe.

Wonderopolis

Traditional s’mores are just about perfection. However, over the last few years there’s been a trend to switch things up and try new fillings to go between that graham cracker goodness. A favorite has become the Reese’s peanut butter cup. They melt perfectly and the peanut butter center gives that salty sweet flavor many go crazy for.

Adding a Reese’s is only the beginning though.

Enter the Gourmet S’mores.

Fancy hu?

I couldn’t be left out of this fun new dessert craze. The wheels began turning and I came up with a few of my own takes on this current trend.

Friends, they are amazing.

Not to toot my own horn, but these combos are eye rolling good. A few options for everyone, you’re sure to fall in love with at least one, if not all of these s’more recipes.

My favorite is the Chocolate Nutella Crush. Because come one, Nutella. Travis loves the White Berry. He’s a big white chocolate, extra sweet kinda guy.

S’mores Kit

We all need a s’mores kit. A little basket that contains the staples. From there, you can add fun extras at the time of roasting.

S’mores Kit necessities:

  • Traditional graham crackers
  • Chocolate graham crackers
  • Milk chocolate bars
  • White chocolate bars
  • Reese’s cups
  • Marshmallows

Once you have the staples and a basket or spot to keep it all together, it’s time to add the fun stuff for the gourmet s’mores below!

We were playing ideas and also came up with substatutions for the crackers. Vanilla wafers, windmill cookies, sugar cookies (homemade, of course)

And my fav, ginger snaps with caramel and marshmallow.

Hey, to each his own! Enjoy

We’ve added a simple way to do s’mores as well.. instead of grahams we use Fudge Stripes Cookies that already have the chocolate on them and a roasted marshmallow in between 2 cookies!

    easy peasy!!

Those are called Boy Scout Smores in our neck of the woods, because our Scout troop have been making them for over 25 years.
