Grilled Salad

Salad is a great healthy side dish to have with your dinner. But, when you're grilling the rest of your food, like for a summer barbecue, you should definitely grill your salad too. It's so much easier than you think.

And yes, it's delicious.

It gives a completely different flavor to the lettuce and you might actually end up eating more salad than you usually do (which is a really healthy benefit of this meal that you weren't expecting).

One half of a romaine lettuce is a serving, so make sure you buy enough for all the people at your dinner or barbecue so no one misses out on having salad.

Cut the romaine lettuce in half longways, making sure to keep the bottom of the lettuce complete so that the lettuce leaves stay in tact.

Use a pastry brush to brush olive oil on the cut side of the romaine lettuce. Optional: You can season them with salt and pepper.

Place the romaine lettuce, cut side down, on a grill. You can use either a charcoal grill or propane grill.

Close the top and grill for about three minutes. Remove the lettuce from the grill.

Top the grilled salad with croutons, parmesan cheese, and salad dressing.

Tips
  • Fresh ground spices add more flavor than packed spices do, so if you aren’t grinding your own spices like we do, you’ll want to add a little more seasoning to compensate for that.
