Cinnamon and Vanilla Flavoured Apple Sauce

One of my favourite sauces. I usually add it to vanilla ice cream or eat it as it is.

I start by peeling the apples

Then, I cut into quarters and put it in a deep pot

I add all the ingredients and 1 cup of tap water. I let it boil, covered. Then place it on the back burner and let it simmer for about 45 minutes or so. I check it every 5-10 minutes to see that there is still water in the pot. I also give it a good stir and enjoy the smell.

Once it is soft enough, I remove it from the stove and cool it down a bit. Then, I use a hand blender to make it smooth. I'm not too fond of it as a chunky sauce, as I give it to my 6 months old baby.

I put it in a sealed jar and keeping it refrigerated. It can be consumed within a maximum of 10 days.

Ingredients


  • 6 medium-size golden delicious apples
  • 6 medium-size Granny Smith apples
  • 2 tablespoon vanilla powder
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Cinnamon powder
  • 1 cup of tap water

Instructions


Peel the apples
Cut the apple to quarters and remove the seeds
Cut each quarter to half and put in a deep pot
Add 1 cup of tap water
Add vanilla powder, sugar and cinnamon
Put the pot on the stove and let it boil
Cover the pot and place it on a back or slow burner
Let it simmer for 45 minutes but check every 5-10 minutes to make sure there is still water in the pot and stir it. If water has evaporated completely, add ¼ cup of tap water.
After 45 minutes, the apples should be very soft, and some of them should be dismantled. If you’d like a chunky sauce, you can leave it like that or use a hand blender to make it smooth. 
Keep refrigerated for up to 10 days.

Tips

  • Best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a few walnuts.
