Recipe details
Ingredients
For the Apple Filling
- 2-3 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
For the Crumble Topping
- 2 1/2 cups almond flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced Granny Smith apples, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Toss the ingredients until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside while you prepare the crumble topping.
- In a separate bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups almond flour, 3/4 cup white sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, a dash of salt, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Mix these dry ingredients together until well combined.
- Cut the 1/2 cup of cold butter into small cubes and add it to the dry mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. You want small butter pieces to remain in the mixture for a crumbly texture.
- Take a baking dish (8x8 inches or similar) and spread the prepared apple filling evenly in the bottom of the dish.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping mixture evenly over the apples, covering them completely. Press down lightly to make sure the topping adheres to the apples.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
- Remove the apple crumble from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve it warm on its own, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a dollop of whipped cream for added deliciousness.
