This air fryer recipe will become your favorite apple dessert.
- 2 apples (1 Granny Smith and & Fuji or your favorite red apple)
- ½ teaspoon Brown sugar
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter (1/2 teaspoon melted and 1 ½ teaspoon frozen)
- 2 teaspoons old-fashioned oats (rolled oats or gluten-free oats can also be used)
- ¼ teaspoon all-purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Drizzle of pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
- Toppings: whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and caramel sauce drizzle – optional
- ½ cup of water
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees f.
Place the divided butter half into the freezer.
Wash and dry the whole apples.
Core the apple, removing the middle.
In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt a little butter, about ½ teaspoon.
Using the pastry brush, brush the melted butter on the top of the apples.
In a medium-sized bowl, add the brown sugar, frozen butter, kosher salt, oats, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla. If you are wanting to add the nutmeg and gloves, now is the time to do it. Mix the ingredients with a pastry blender or use your hands.
Spoon the oatmeal mixture on top of the halves.
Add the water to the bottom of the air fryer basket. Add in the parchment paper if you use that in your air fryer for the basket. Then add in the filled apples.
Air fry for a cooking time of 10 minutes and then check. Remove them from the air fryer if they are tender apples. If not, put them back in for another three minutes and then check them.
Once done cooking, remove from air fryer and serve immediately as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For a little extra bit of sweetness/caramelization, drizzle some honey over top before serving.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days on the counter.
We recommend a variety of apple that is on the firmer side like Granny Smith apples, Golden Delicious or Honey Crisp. These are the best apples because they will hold up well during the cooking process and not turn into mush.
Do I need to peel the apples before I air fry them? No, you don’t need to peel them. The skin will get nice and crispy in the air fryer.
Why are apples good to make in the air fryer? One of the best things about air frying is that you can use hardly any oil to get a crispy coating, and that’s definitely true for apples. The sweet and tart flavors of crisp apples come through really well when they’re air fried, and they make a delicious healthy snack.
Some great toppings for baked apples include: raisins, dried cranberries, chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans), brown sugar, caramel sauce, cinnamon sugar, or ice cream. Yum!
