What is a Poke Cake?

A poke cake is an easy way to make a decadent dessert recipe. After baking a delicious cake, with the end of a wooden spoon, you poke holes throughout the cake. Then a filling seeps through the holes.

How to Make an Easy Homemade Snickers Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 box devil’s food cake mix, chocolate cake mix or your favorite chocolate cake recipe (Plus ingredients called for on box)
  • 1 box chocolate pudding (Plus ingredients called for on box)
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Caramel Sundae Topping
  • 1 Tablespoon Chocolate Sundae Topping
  • 8 oz Cool Whip (approximately 2-3 cups)
  • Snickers, sliced in 1/2″ thickness for garnish

Directions:

Spray a 9×13 inch cake pan with non stick cooking spray.

Prepare and cook box cake mix according to package directions.

Meanwhile, prepare chocolate pudding mix according to package directions. Set aside.

Once the cake is removed from the oven, use the handle of a wooden spoon or chopstick to poke holes all over the top of the warm cake – trying not to go through the whole thickness of the cake.

Drizzle the caramel syrup on top of the cake.

The next step his to add a layer of pudding all over the cake. Smooth the pudding into an even layer using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon.

Let cake cool in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.

Top with a thick layer of the whipped cream topping, smoothing down in an even layer.

Just before serving, pour caramel and chocolate syrup on top of the whipped topping and garnish with any remaining caramel syrup and chocolate syrup plus chopped Snickers.

When should I poke the holes in the cake?

Poke the holes throughout your cake when it is warm and fresh from the oven.

Looks delicious but no way is this 15min prep time. More like double that...which is fine, but it's not quick.

It is unclear in the ingredients how much caramel sauce do I need to pour over the top of the cake holes. It says 2-3 TBLSP, but I'm assuming that is to drizzle on top of the cool whip at the end. How much caramel sauce do we need to pour over the top after we've poked the holes? Thanks! It looks delicious!
