Recipe Notes and FAQ
What does the cake mix do?
The cake mix adds flavor. The sprinkles in the Funfetti cake mix sink to the bottom, so they do nothing for the appearance. However, it does give that delicious cake batter taste. Add sprinkles to the top of the ice cream and when you serve for the colorful look.
What is the flavor of birthday cake ice cream?
Birthday cake ice cream is vanilla cake flavor with sprinkles mixed in. So, if you don’t have a box of Funfetti, you can use a box of vanilla cake mix and add sprinkles.
Do I need an ice cream maker?
Nope! This recipe is made to be no-churn so there is no ice cream maker needed.
What does no-churn ice cream mean?
No-churn means the recipe doesn’t require an ice cream maker.
Does no-churn ice cream taste good?
Yes! No-churn ice cream is just as tasty as churned ice cream. They’re both delicious ice creams, you just don’t need a machine for no-churn.
Want extra birthday cake flavor?
Use cake batter extract instead of vanilla extract if you want the ice cream to taste even more birthday cakey.
What makes ice cream creamy?
The fat in dairy is what makes ice cream so creamy. Higher fat content makes a creamier ice cream. For example, half and half or heavy whipping cream will make a creamier ice cream than whole milk.
Additional Add-Ins and Toppings
Top with confetti sprinkles for a fun alternative topping. You can also add pieces of cake to the ice cream for a delicious texture.
