This Baby Guinness Shot is made with coffee and Irish cream liqueurs, and looks just like a tiny glass of Guinness stout! The coffee liqueur mimics the color of stout beer, while the Irish cream liqueur mimics the foam, or "head", on top of the beer. Super cute, right?


We've all had Guinness, Irish whiskey, and the odd pint of Green beer when celebrating St. Patrick's Day, right? But have you ever had a sweet shooter that looks just like a wee glass of Guinness? If you haven't, I suggest that you give it a shot (bad pun very much intended). And if you have, well, you know what I'm talking about then.


Making a layered shot can seem intimidating if you've never done it before. But it's really pretty simple to do. And the payoff is big. Just take a look at how cute these little guys are!

What is a Baby Guinness Shot?


A Baby Guinness Shot is a shot, or shooter, that looks just like a tiny glass of Guinness (or other stout beer). Despite the name, the shot contains no actual Guinness!


It's intended to be consumed in a single gulp, or shot.


Ingredients


The ingredient list is short and sweet (literally and figuratively) for this shot.


  • Coffee liqueur: Kahlúa is probably the brand of coffee liqueur with which most people are familiar; this is what I used. There are others brands, however. Use whatever you prefer!
  • Irish cream liqueur: Irish cream is made with Irish whiskey, cream, and other flavorings. Bailey's is probably the most popular version, at least in the U.S. As a lover of all things Costco, I used the Kirkland brand of Irish cream 😉


How to make a Baby Guinness Shot


For this shooter, you'll need to layer the liqueurs in the shot glass. At first glance, this might seem a little bit intimidating. I'll admit that I was a little nervous the first time I tried this method.


But fear not! It's actually not that difficult. Let's walk through it, step by step.


Layered shots


Step 1: Pour the Kahlúa liqueur into your shot glass. I used these taller, skinner, 1.5 oz shot glasses that you see in the photos. Despite them being a different shape, they're the size of a standard shot glass. But use whatever floats your boat.

Step 2: Take a bar spoon (or teaspoon) and hold it on an angle (approximately 45 degrees, or a little less) like in the picture below. You'll want to hold it so that the tip of the spoon is just about touching the side of the shot glass and is touching the surface of the liquid.

Step 3: Slowly pour the Irish cream over the back of the spoon, creating two distinct layers, with the Irish cream floating on top of the Kahlúa. Lift the spoon slightly (maintaining the same angle) as you pour the Irish cream liqueur.


Ta da! You have just layered a shot.


Now, if the layering process happens to go awry, that's okay. The two liqueurs may mix together, resulting in the loss of the appearance of a tiny glass of Guinness. The shot will still taste great, though.

Nope! This shot just looks like a little baby glass of Guinness.

If there's no Guinness... what's in it?

This shot is made with coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur.

Can I use other liqueurs?

Substituting sambuca (an anise-flavored liqueur) for the coffee liqueur will allow you to make a Slippery Nipple shot.

Ingredients

Instructions

Pour the coffee liqueur into a shot glass.

    1oz of Gin or Vodka
