Crispy Tofu With Scallions & Chili Oil

I'm the biggest fan of tofu when done properly. Crispy tofu is the best way to eat it in my opinion, and the steps to make it are always the same for me. I cut the tofu into cubes and coat with cornstarch, then fry it on a pan or air-fry. From there the options are endless! You can add it to any dish or sauce of your choice. For this recipe, I fried it up with some green scallions and covered them with chili oil. Served on vermicelli noodles or rice with some soy sauce - it's as easy as that!

Ingredients

  • 1 block of extra firm tofu
  • 3 tbsp corn starch
  • oil for frying
  • 1 bunch of scallions
  • 3 tbsp chili oil
  • vermicelli noodles or rice to serve
  • soy sauce to serve
Instructions

Press your block of tofu then cut into large cubes and chop the green parts of the scallions into 1 inch pieces
Add to a bowl with the cornstarch, then mix to ensure all the tofu is coated
Heat oil in a pan, then add the coated tofu to fry each side
Once golden brown, add your chili oil and scallions
Mix until the scallions wilt and everything is coated in the chili
Serve with noodles or rice and soy sauce

Tips
  • Add sesame oil, sriracha, and/or white pepper for extra flavor
