Looking for a simple, fresh, healthy breakfast recipe? This bircher muesli is a must try. Our classic recipe of soaking the oats, milk and a little fresh orange or apple juice overnight, creates a yummy creamy texture. In the morning, simply portion out a single serve and add your favourite toppings, to create your prefect healthy breakfast! (Actually any time of day snack, great for taking to work and a healthy afternoon pick me up too)

Creating your own healthy breakfast, is so simple with our recipe:

  • Mix the oats, milk and orange/ apple juice together and place in an airtight container.
  • Leave the oats to soak overnight.
  • In the morning, serve a single portion of the oats and add your toppings. Its that simple, enjoy!


As with most foods shared across cultures, todays bircher is some what different to the original. The original version was much more fruit based with less grains. All bircher muesli starts with the same core ingredients of oats, dairy and fruit, from there you can add a whole range of toppings. Dried fruit, grated apple or any fresh fruit, yoghurt, nuts and seeds, chia seeds, peanut butter or other nut butter are all delicious on top. Perfect for a breakfast platter and letting everyone create their own.

We prefer squeezing a fresh orange over the oats, for the added goodness but you can substitute with 4/5 tablespoons of apple or orange juice.

Our favourite toppings: (as pictured, yum!)

  • Orange and passionfruit
  • Poached rhubarb
  • Berries and almonds with natural yoghurt
  • Golden kiwi fruit, sunflower seeds and mint

Base Bircher Ingredients:
  • 200 g Oats
  • 500 ml Milk Use non dairy milk for vegan option
  • 1 medium Orange (juice only) See notes 1
Add before serving:
  • 2 tbsp natural yoghurt per serving (can switch for non diary product)
  • 1 tbsp Grated apple per serving
  • Plus your favourite topping ingredients. See notes 2

Mix oats, milk, squeezed orange store in an air tight container and allow to soak overnight.
In the morning, portion out the oat mix and add fresh yoghurt, grated apple per serving.
Serve as is or add your favourite toppings, see our suggestions in the note 2 below. Enjoy!
  • Note 1 – Squeezed orange can be replaced with 4/5 tablespoons of store brought apple or orange juice.
  • Note 2 – Suggested toppings:
