Let me start by saying Smoked Ham Mac And Cheese Recipe made on a Pitboss Smoker is amazing! Now, this is what a grownup’s dream is made of! Now macaroni cheese from scratch, not from a box; it is the best way, in my opinion.

Smoked foods don’t need to be summer food, they can be an all-year food! Sometimes it can be hard to find the foods that pair with the low and smoked foods. This smoked mac and cheese solve that dilemma and will be a hit with all. This makes for perfect next-day food as leftovers as well.

Smoked Ham Mac And Cheese Ingredients:

  • 1 16oz Package Of Macaroni Noodles- Any type of noodle will work if you don’t have macaroni noodles. Rotini or shell noodles are amazing options.
  • 1/4 Cup Butter or 4 Tablespoons of Butter- Salted or unbuttered salt both will work in this recipe. It is all a personal preference for taste.
  • Diced leftover Ham- Now, this is amazing with leftover Smoked Ham, but you can use any type of ham. Leftover Crockpot ham, store-bought diced ham, diced ham steaks, or any other type of ham.
  • 1/4 Cup Flour– All Purpose flour is the flour most commonly used and what I used to make this.
  • 3 Cups 2% Milk or Whole Milk- Heavy whipping cream can be used here as well, but high-fat milk helps to make this recipe creamy.
  • 8 Oz of Cream Cheese Cubed- If the cream cheese is room temperature, it will melt a bit faster, dice
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 Lb Parmesan Cheese Shredded
  • 1 Lb Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 lb Mozzeralla Cheese Gouda Cheese
  • 1/2 Lb White Cheddar Cheese

*Important note on the cheese you can use whatever kind of cheese you want to 2 1/2 lbs of cheese is what seems to be the best ratio with a mixture. For a yellow-looking macaroni and cheese, use a higher ratio of cheddar or even Velveeta.*

How To Make Smoked Homemade Ham Macaroni & Cheese :

Prepare the box of pasta according to the package directions, a bit al dente, in a large pot of water of boiling water on the stove top. I used elbow macaroni noodles, but you can use any type of pasta; I used elbow macaroni this time.

Drain your pasta when it is done cooking.

In a medium or large saucepan melt butter over medium-low heat. Once the butter has melted, next whisk your flour into your melted butter. (I used a silicone whisk for this part)

Allow the flour and butter to cook until it is a thick mixture.

Whisk in the milk and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Allow the milk mixture to cook for about 5 more minutes until it is thick.

Carefully drop in the cubed cream cheese and stir in the salt and black pepper. Stir until cream cheese is melted into the milk mixture.

In a large bowl combine half of the shredded cheeses together.

Slowly mix the shredded cheese mixture into the cream sauce.Next, add the cooked pasta into the cheese sauce mixture.

Dice up your ham meat, you can also use diced ham from the store

Turn on another burn to medium heat, once warm drop in your ham with a smidge of minced garlic into a large skillet. The ham pieces will take on some of the flavors of garlic in this process.

After the ham pieces are browned up a bit mix the pieces into the mac and cheese mixture.Spray an aluminum 9 X 13 pan with a nonstick spray, you could use an oven safe casserole dish as well for this dish. Now I used 9×13 disposable aluminum pans that are disposable to make this. If you use a baking pan, the smoker will stain this, but you could also make this in a cast iron skillet, dutch oven, or cast iron pan as well.

Spread the cheesy pasta into the sprayed pan.The next step is to combine the remaining shredded cheese and sprinkle the top of the cheesy pasta with the cheese.

Set your smoker on the smoke setting will add smoke flavor and smoke for about 20 minutes, or longer if you want a stronger smoky flavor.

Turn the temperature up to 225 and smoke for another hour until bubbly.

You can stir, and if the ham seems to be making too much grease in the top dab the macaroni and cheese with a paper towel.

Serve and enjoy!!
