I love some fried calamari, especially when I go out on dates with my significant other. On date nights with my daughter, we always order fried calamari with a good old margarita.

Here’s a simple recipe and crunchy at its best. A great appetizer that you can enjoy with your loved ones while watching a game or a great movie.

You can always pair it with a salad, or enjoy it alone.

Enjoy my simple easy recipe!

Ingredients

1 pound calamari rings (frozen)

1 1/2 cup buttermilk

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups of Panko breading

2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp paprika

1/2 cayenne pepper

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp of dried parsley more for serving

Vegetable oil for frying

Instruction

Place the calamari in a bowl with the 1 cup of buttermilk and stir to combine.

Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Heat 3-4 inches of oil in a large deep pot to 375 degrees F.

Place the flour, salt, paprika, pepper, and garlic powder, cayenne, and parsley in a medium bowl; stir to combine.

Remove each piece of squid from the buttermilk and dredge in the flour, then in 1/2 cup of buttermilk, and dredge in Panko breading. Repeat the process until all pieces are coated.

Place 5-7 pieces of squid in the oil (these were pretty big so I fried 5 at a time). Cook for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove the squid from the oil and drain on paper towels. Repeat the process with the remaining squid.

Sprinkle dried or fresh parsley. Garnish with lemon wedges. Serve immediately.

Enjoy!
