Healthy Creamy Caramel Date Sauce
How does this sound, warm, gooey, sweet and creamy caramel sauce that you can use to spread over toast or drizzle over pancakes and smoothies? Wait, it gets even better, you can eat this guilt free too because you know why, it’s a healthier version of the real thing but doesn’t have all the butter and sugar. I’ve been working on trying to make some of my favorite recipes a little healthier and this one is a great healthier version. I don’t even miss the real caramel sauce anymore. Before I started making this and perfecting it, I didn’t think that I would like it because I love caramel sauce so much, but I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re looking for healthier version of the traditional caramel sauce, I think you will love this. It’s sooo easy to make also. My family who have a huge sweet tooth even love it. We use it to top everything from toast to ice cream. This would make great gifts too. Alright, enough said, let’s get this started!

Healthy Creamy Caramel Date Sauce
Recipe details
Ingredients
- 8 dates soaked for at least an hour and skin removed
- 1 cup coconut milk or milk of choice
- 6 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 to 2 tsp vanilla
- Flaky sea salt to taste
Instructions
- Soak the dates in hot water for at least an hour or in room temp water over night. This will soften the dates and separates the skin from the date. Once the skin begins to peel, remove as much of it as you can. This will ensure that the sauce is creamy.
- Place dates into a blender and add the coconut milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla and sea salt. Blend until all ingredients are well incorporated and the sauce is creamy. Taste and add more cinnamon, maple syrup, and salt to your liking.
- Pour into a serving container and use immediately or refrigerate.
Tips
- If you don’t have coconut milk, I’ve used other types of milk from regular to heavy cream. It still tastes great but it has more fat calories.
- I like soaking the dates over night because it makes the dates even softer. I’ve done it both ways, with and without the skin and I like the consistency of it with the skin removed.
- I store the sauce in the refrigerator until the use by date of the milk I’m using.
