Today, we’re making Take 5 Dip!

It’s Day 3 in our 12 Days of Dips series, and this one is the first of 3 sweet dips we’ll see in this series!

Do you guys know about the Reese’s Take 5 candy bar? In my opinion, it’s sooooo underrated. You have a little cluster of peanut butter, caramel, and pretzel coated in their classic milk chocolate. And honestly, it’s one of my all time favs! So today’s dip is inspired by that glorious little treat. There’s a layer of sweet peanut butter. There’s a layer of gooey caramel. There’s a layer of thick chocolate ganache. And the dipper of choice is, of course, pretzels!

So let’s get to it!

We’ll start with the peanut butter layer. Honestly, the peanut butter lover in me could simply schmear some peanut butter in a pie dish and call it done. But these are the holidays, after all. So we’re going to add a little extra oomph by mixing a healthy scoop of peanut butter with some softened cream cheese, a little softened butter, and some powdered sugar. That’s all there is to it. Beat it all together until smooth, and schmear that mix into your favorite pie dish. Layer 1…done!

For the next layer, the caramel layer, we’re taking some help from the grocery store. Grab your favorite caramel ice cream topping, and give it a drizzle all over the peanut butter. That’s it! Schmear it around until it just coats the peanut butter, and this is going to add such a nice gooey quality to our dip. Super simple, and that’s layer 2…done!

For our final layer, we’re going to make a simple chocolate ganache to pour all over our caramel and peanut butter. Take equal parts milk chocolate chips and heavy cream, pop them in the microwave for 1 minute, then whisk them together until they’re completely incorporated. It’s that simple! We’ll pour it in an even layer in our pie dish, and this needs to set in the fridge for as long as possible. 4 hours is the minimum, 8 hours is preferable, overnight is best case scenario. The chocolate is going to look really thin and slippery because of the caramel sauce underneath. But I promise you, it thickens up the longer it gets in the fridge.

To garnish the dip, I like to put a little dollop of chopped Take 5 candy bars in the center of the dip. But honestly, chopped peanuts would be a great garnish too. Then when it’s time to serve, have some mini pretzels on the side, and that’s a candy bar turned dip! Hot tip, mini cookies are excellent dippers for this dip too.

This dip is soooooo yum. From that sweet, buttery, slightly tangy peanut butter layer to the gooey caramel layer to the rich chocolate layer; it’s the perfect treat. If I’m being completely transparent, I found myself just going at this dip straight from spoon to mouth, shoveling it in my face as fast and furious as possible. So yeah…it’s alright.

Ok, everyone! Tomorrow, we’re going to see what size your heart is this season, so stay tuned!

I hope you guys enjoy, and let’s eat!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup caramel sauce
  • ½ cup milk chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Mini pretzels, for serving
Instructions

To a large mixing bowl, add cream cheese, butter, and peanut butter. Use a hand mixer to beat until well combined. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, and beat again until smooth and fully combined. Transfer mixture to a 9 inch pie plate.
Drizzle caramel sauce over peanut butter mixture, and gently spread into an even later.
To a small bowl, add chocolate chips and heavy cream. Microwave for 1 min. Whisk until chocolate and cream are fully combined and smooth. Pour chocolate over the caramel in an even layer. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours but preferably overnight.
Serve the dip with mini pretzels. Enjoy!
Tips
  • *This dip is great served with mini cookies too. But serving with pretzels gives you the true essence of a Take 5 candy bar.
  • *The ganache will look really thin at first, but the more time it has in the fridge, the better it will set.
