Easy Homemade Peppermint Patty Recipe

One of the most delectable sweet treats are peppermint patties. I know this first hand, and I’m sharing the best homemade peppermint patty recipe.

When it comes to sweet desserts and growing up, I’ve got some doozie memories to share, as well as some epic disasters. One memory, in particular, that is always front and center in my mind is the one with the peppermint patty. It goes something like this….

“Whenever I bite into a York Peppermint Pah Patty…..”

My mom, dad, sister and I would be sitting at the dinner table, doing our best to recreate, in character, our favorite candy commercials, and I would own this peppermint patty one. I would take my coke-bottle-farsighted-glasses and prop them on my face just so; do my best to bring on the accent, and recite the lines of the commercial.

Never mind the fact that if I were to give into a chocolate candy (of sorts), this one would be the one and only.

This Is True.

I’ve talked about it numerous times around here that I’m not a chocolate person, but I could never pass by a peppermint patty.

Which brings me to another story.

There’s a candy store in Rhinebeck, NY that is owned by a couple of well-loved and known actors (one who’s last name rhymes with dud), yet is so far from. Sean, the kids and I go and visit occasionally, and among the numerous sweets we buy, the chocolate peppermint patties are an always. Recently, Sean brought home one of these patties. I have to tell y’all, they’re amazing. So, natch, I set out to try and create my own recipe to bring the same amazing and delicious results as this Rudd / Morgan treat.

So here we go with the taste testing. Recipe research, try some of this, omit some of that. Add a little more here and there. Typical, but so critical. Adapting a recipe is so important before hitting publish. Try, try again.

One quality I wanted to keep about the sweet shop recipe was the size. It wasn’t one of the one-inch-round size, but rather quite a bit larger. Although I enjoyed holding a coaster-sized patty and nibbling all the way around, it was after numerous testings that I deemed a two-inch cookie cutter to be the end-all-be-all.

Now to perfect the chocolate. Most recipes called for milk chocolate. And most normal people would agree. However, I’m not normal. I like to challenge the flavors and come up with the show-stopper. Answer here would be a deep dive of bittersweet chocolate. This chocolate pairs perfectly with the flavors of the sweetened condensed milk, along with the powdered suger.

Of course. Of course all that works.
