Here's Why This Recipe Works

  • Easy and quick. These best vegan waffles are made with pantry staples and come together quickly.
  • Great for meal prep. If you're into meal prep, making a big batch of vegan waffles and freezing them is a fantastic way to ensure you always have a delicious breakfast.
  • Topping Ideas. My favorite thing about waffles is the toppings. From Maple Syrup to fruit spreads, the possibilities are endless. That's what makes homemade vegan waffles an ultimate vegan breakfast.

Ingredients
Best Vegan Waffles ingredients: all-purpose flour, unsweetened non-dairy milk, avocado oil, brown sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract.

Ingredient Notes

  • Flour. You can replace all-purpose flour with whole wheat pastry flour. You can also substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • Oil. I love using avocado oil in cooking. It has a high smoke point and is perfect for baking/frying.

How To Make the Best Vegan Waffles

Making crispy vegan breakfast waffles on the waffle iron has never been easier with my simple waffle recipe.

Mixing flour and baking powder in a small bowl.
  1. Preheat the regular waffler maker (or Belgian waffle maker) according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a small bowl, combine all-purpose flour and baking powder. Whisk until just combined.

Chef's Note

Make sure all your vegan waffle ingredients are at room temperature.

If the waffler maker isn’t nonstick, brush it with melted coconut oil, or nonstick cooking spray. I love using Avocado Oil cooking spray.

Serving Suggestions

As I mentioned, the best thing about these easy homemade vegan waffles is the toppings galore.

Here're my favorite suggestions:

  • Vegan butter. Just make sure that waffle is at room temperature. Otherwise, the butter will melt. I love Miyoko's vegan butter.
  • Maple syrup
  • agave
  • Fruit spread. Here's a great recipe for quick homemade fruit syrup. You'll need ¼ c Cane Sugar 1⁄4 cup water, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 1 c berries (fresh or frozen). Add sugar, water, and lemon juice to a small to medium size saucepan over medium heat. Bring it to a boil, stirring occasionally. Add the berries and let them boil for about 5 minutes. Let it cool and serve.
  • jam
  • fresh berries such as fresh blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries
  • fresh fruit such as banana or mango
  • Nutella
  • peanut butter or almond butter.

Storage Tips

It's better to serve and enjoy these vegan waffles warm. However, if you made a big batch or doing meal prep, you can refrigerate the leftovers or freeze them.

To refrigerate - place these easy vegan waffles in a refrigerator and store them for no more than 2 days. Reheat in a toaster.

If you plan to store the homemade waffles longer, then it's best to freeze them.

To freeze. First, you need to cool the waffles. Then, arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and pop them in a freezer until firm, about two hours. After that, you can place the homemade vegan waffles in a freezer-friendly storage bag.

Store waffles in a freezer for about 3 months.

To reheat. Reheat these best vegan waffles in a toaster or toaster oven ( this is what I use) for about 3 minutes until the waffles crisp back up.
