Here is the recipe of everyone's favorite sugar cookies. These are cutout sugar cookies cut into shapes and decorated for Christmas.

These are perfect crisp sugar cookies with flat top. The dough is made from whole wheat flour and egg less too. These are healthier than store bought ones and they can be made with basic ingredients you already have at home.


And you can prepare and store this dough in the fridge for up to 2 days. And the chocolate covered cookies last for 5-6 days in a air-tight container at room temperature.

I Decorated the cookies using milk and white chocolate. You can use any chocolate you like or you can use icing of your choice. These cookies have perfect flat top that makes icing hassle-free!

Here i cut out the cookies in different shapes. Snowman cookies using bottle cap / cookie cutter. The Christmas tree cookies with a sharp knife/cutter. And remaining candy , heart and star shaped cookies using cookie cutters.


But my favorite and most easy ones are the cookie sticks. Just cut the dough in a big rectangle and cut 1 inch thick sticks and ta-da. You have super easy and fun cookie shape for the kids.

Ingredients


  • 3/4 Cup Whole Wheat Flour(Additional some for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter (@room temprature)
  • 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 1 Tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch Of Salt(1/8 tsp)

For decorating cookies

  • 1/4 cup White Chocolate Chunks
  • 1/4 cup Milk/Dark Chocolate Chunks
  • Red Food Color
  • Handful of M & M
  • Handful of Sprinkles
  • Colored Sugar(Green/Red)

Instructions

To Make Colored Sugar

Take desired amount of sugar(I took 2 tbsp) and add 1-2 drops of food color(I added green).
Add both in a Ziploc/Container mix until all the sugar is coated well in color. Repeat until you get the desired color.
Let it out on a parchment paper for few minutes. So that it dry out completely.

For the base cookies

Preheat the oven @350 F or 180 C. First add all the wet ingredients soft butter,sugar, milk and vanilla extract in a large bowl.
And whisk everything well until mixed together. I used electric beater on low setting for 2-3 minutes. Or until butter mixture turns light yellow in color.
Now place a sieve and add whole wheat flour, Baking powder and pinch of salt. Sift everything well.
Using Electric mixer whisk until flour is slightly mixed with butter mixture. And then with a spatula combine the dough together.
And soft cookie dough is ready. Put this dough in fridge for 30-45 minutes. So that it becomes easy to work with.
You can store this dough in fridge for up to 2 days. I stored mine for 12 hours in the fridge.
When you store the dough in fridge for more than 45 minutes, it becomes hard. So get this out of the fridge and knead the dough for few seconds until it becomes soft enough to roll.
Or you can keep the dough out of the fridge 30-45 minutes before you start rolling it.
Once the dough is soft enough to roll, dust some whole wheat flour on the work surface and roll 1/4 inch thin disk.
Then using cookie cutters, knife or bottle caps cut out desired shapes.
I used bottle caps to cut circle shapes for snowman cookies and 2 bottle caps for wreath shape.
Used some heart,star and candy shaped cutters.
And using knife cut out Christmas tree shape or just 1 inch thick cookie sticks.
Once you cut out the cookies using all the dough . Place them on a plate and freeze for 15 minutes or so.
I chilled the cookies to make sure they hold their shape while transferring to a baking tray and while baking as well.
Then bake the cookies @350F or @180C for 12-18 minutes. Check after 12 minutes, Mine took 15 minutes to bake.
When cookies are perfectly baked, light brown crust on the edges. Let them completely cool down on parchment paper.

For decorating cookies

To make snowman cookies I dipped the round cookie in white chocolate and make a face using mini chocolate chips, orange M&M and melted milk chocolate.
You can make simple chocolate covered cookies with sprinkles or Make patterns using milk/dark and white chocolate.
To prepared the marbled cookies(Red and white swirl) Mix few drops of red food color in the melted white chocolate and give it a mix until you get white and light red swirls. And simply dip the cookies in that to get that swirl effect.
