Chocolate Italian Cookies
I have a huge sweet tooth and especially love anything chocolate, these are an absolute favorite cookie around the holidays in our house year after year!
Now I’m not Italian, I’m Greek…but I have a special place in my heart for all kinds of Italian cookies, I think you’ll enjoy them too, here’s what you’ll need to make them
In a large mixing bowl, add 2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cloves, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt
Add 1/2 cup softened butter and mix until you have a crumbly texture
Make a well in the center and add 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips, 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts, 3 tsp orange zest, 1 egg beaten and 1/2 cup milk, stir to combine, you can add a little more milk if the mixture is too sticky
Refrigerate the batter for 1 hour or overnight
Preheat oven to 375 degrees and scoop cookie dough on to parchment paper lined cookie sheet, bake for 12-13 minutes
Remove from oven and cook completely on cooling racks
Make the glaze by combining the following in a bowl, 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tbsp cocoa powder and 6 tsp milk
Dip the top of each cookie in the glaze allowing the excess to drop off
Finish with a festive sprinkle if you wish. Allow glaze to harden before packaging
