Red Velvet Waffles

8 waffles
15 min

OH MY GOSHHH, I have had such a red velvet craving! It’s one of my favorite desserts. And with Valentine’s Day approaching, I was in the mood to bake something red velvet inspired. These red velvet waffles are so indulgent and are perfect for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or anytime you just want to spoil yourself or someone you love. The best part, they are made with red velvet cake mix and topped with a homemade cream cheese whipped topping you can prepare ahead of time.

If you want to give your partner a hint, email them this recipe or print it out and put it on their pillow as a little nudge and maybe perhaps you will get breakfast in bed for Valentine’s Day 😉

For waffles

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 3 eggs

Cream Cheese Whipped Topping

  • 8 oz cream cheese, at room temp
  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients for the waffle mix in a mixing bowl and mix together.
  2. Preheat the waffle iron and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Scoop the waffle batter onto the iron and cook according to waffle iron instructions.
  4. Remove with spatula when done and place on a plate, allow to cool slightly.
  5. While the waffles are cooling, prepare the whipped cream topping. (Or you can prepare the whipped topping ahead of time and store in the refrigerator in a sealed container until ready to serve). In a stand mixer, add cream cheese and confectioner’s sugar, mix until combined.
  6. Add in the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract and mix until forms a whipped consistency.
  7. Top with the cream cheese whipped topping, some chocolate chips or sprinkles.

If you’d like heart shaped waffles, this Dash waffle iron is super cute! I wish I had a cabinet to store all of their fun holiday waffle irons!

If you don’t have a heart shaped waffle iron, you can also try using a heart shaped cookie cutter and cutting out heart shaped waffles that way too!
