Tostadas

12 tostadas
25 min

I have been making this recipe since high school. When I was a poor college student this recipe helped me survive. With inflation costs, I am finding myself making this recipe a lot more. Luckily it is delicious and one of my favorites! It is also very balanced and nutritious.

This recipe is so versatile- you can use different proteins/meats, beans, vegetables, and toppings. You can make themed tostadas such as Korean (adding some slaw and Korean BBQ sauce to the meat), Mexican (classic beans, meat, salsa, etc.), etc. You can get creative! My favorite is just the classic one. I usually get full after eating 2-3 of these as they are very filling.

This recipe is so quick and easy you will be shocked

Ingredients
Tostadas
  • 12 tostada shells
  • 1 16 oz can refried beans
  • 1 package of slaw (I used cruciferous slaw from Trader Joes)
  • 2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 2 avocados (or 1/2 cup guacamole)
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup salsa
Instructions
Tostadas
In a pan over medium heat sauté ground turkey with taco seasoning and 1 tbsp olive oil
In the meantime, heat refried beans either in a pan or safely in the microwave for 1 minute
Set out tostada shells and spread thin layer of refried beans over each shell
Top with cooked ground turkey and top with desired amount of slaw, avocado, Greek yogurt, and salsa
Tips
  • Greek yogurt is used in place of sour cream in this recipe but you can use sour cream if that is your preference or you already have it on hand
  • You can top with corn, salsa, avocado, Green goddess dressing, siracha, slaw, sauteed peppers, onions, etc. The toppings I used in this recipe are just a suggestion. You can add any toppings you want
Comments
  • So right about these! Everything is so expensive these days. And so right, mix it up, try chicken, fish, whatever protein one desires or go slightly vegetarian. And make some dessert tostada's, tostada s'mores, tostada churros, get creative! Easy, quick, simple. Thanks for sharing.
