Growing up in the South means I’ve had my share of fried food. My all time favorite fried food is fried okra, it has been since I was a child. However, I rarely make it at home because I do not like the mess or smell that frying food in my house creates.

Well, this past weekend, I came up with the perfect solution to that problem…frying the okra in a cast iron on the grill! It created the same wonderful savory, crunchy fried okra, but without the mess or smell of grease lingering in my kitchen.

With only three simple steps, this recipe is perfect, easy side dish to any meat your family decides to grill this summer.

Crispy, crunchy, delicious fried okra from the grill comes together in 3 easy steps.

Start by drenching the okra in buttermilk.

Then dredge the okra in flour mixed with cornmeal.

Finally, fry the okra in canola oil heated in a cast iron skillet on the grill.
