Ingredients

  • For the Rice Krispie Base:
  • 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 package (about 10 oz) marshmallows
  • For the Caramel Layer:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • For the Chocolate Topping:
  • 6 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Instructions

1. Prepare the Rice Krispie Base:
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
In a large saucepan, melt the 1/4 cup of butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and well combined.
Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the Rice Krispies cereal until they are evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and press it down firmly using a spatula or your hands.
2. Make the Caramel Layer:
In a medium saucepan, melt the 1/2 cup of butter over medium heat. Add the sugar, sweetened condensed milk. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth.
Bring it to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens and turns a golden caramel color.
Pour the caramel evenly over the Rice Krispie base and spread it out using a spatula. Allow it to cool and set for about 30-45 minutes.
3. Prepare the Chocolate Topping:
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and 2 tablespoons of butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and spread it out evenly.
4. Allow to Set:
Allow the entire dish to cool and set for at least 2 hours at room temperature, or in the refrigerator for faster setting.
5. Cut and Serve:
Once fully set, use a sharp knife to cut the millionaire rice crispy cakes into squares or rectangles.
6. Optional Garnish:
You can optionally sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate layer for a nice contrast to the sweetness.
