Smashed Burger Tacos

4 Servings

I recently saw these types of tacos become very popular and although I’m not usually the type to follow these trends, I did think that these would be particularly tasty and that the family would enjoy them. They are easy to put together although a tad time consuming to make a whole bunch for a crowd. I used a stovetop flat griddle to do this and speed up the process so I could make 6-7 at a time.

These are a huge hit with my family and I kind of enjoy them the same as a burger because sometimes I’m just not feeling that bun. This helps and you get more of that smashed burger patty goodness. If you’re on the fence about trying these, I say do it. You won’t be disappointed.

Ingredients

  • 16-20 mini sized flour tortillas
  • 2 lbs ground beef, preferably chuck
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Diced dill pickles
  • salt and pepper
Burger sauce
  • 1 tsp dried minced onion
  • 1/4 cup mayo
  • 1 tbsp sweet relish
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp dill pickle brining liquid
  • pinch of salt
Instructions

Spread out the flour tortillas on a baking tray.
Take a golf ball sized piece of ground beef and smash it or spread it across the tortilla, try to get it as close to the edges as possible.
Season the beef with salt and pepper.
In a medium sized bowl, mix all of the sauce ingredients together and set aside.
Heat up your frying pan or stovetop griddle over medium high heat.
Once hot, place the tortillas beef side down onto the pan/griddle. Press the tortilla down in a smashing motion to ensure the beef stays flat and gets a good sear. Once the beef is seared and colored, flip them over and top with the shredded cheese. Allow to cook until the tortillas crisp up a little and the cheese is melted.
Remove to a plate and top with the sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles.
Repeat cooking the rest of the tacos. Serve and enjoy!
Tips
  • You must serve this with fries for a classic burger and fries combo!
