BBQ Dry Rub

This BBQ Dry Rub is simple to mix up from pantry staples and makes more than enough to keep a jar on hand in the pantry. Sprinkle it on to add savory flavor to pork, poultry, and veggies.

Adding a dry rub before grilling or smoking meats simply adds more flavor. The flavor profiles of rubs vary widely, but I prefer one that has a smoky, savory flavor. Whether you prefer a wet or dry rub, this recipe will work for you. If you prefer a wet rub, simply mix the dry rub with some avocado oil or olive oil.

Homemade spice blends are easy to make. They allow you to customize the flavors to your family’s palate, and they don’t contain any added ingredients that you can’t pronounce. This BBQ Rub and my homemade Taco Seasoning are always in my pantry ready to use.

Not only is this a fantastic rub for pork or poultry, it also works incredibly well for roasted potatoes and veggies. Try it as a seasoning for homemade air fryer fries. Yum!

The best bbq dry rubs will contain some sugar in order to develop a nice bark on the outside of the meat. I like to apply the rub at least a few hours before grilling or smoking to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.

A dry rub doesn’t have to be reserved only for grilling or smoking. You can also use it with roasting and air frying. If you’ve never tried chicken wings with a dry rub, you’ll be super happy when you do. I’ve used this BBQ rub on Crispy Smoked Chicken Wings, and they turn out amazing. Toss in sauce if you want, but the flavor from the rub is fantastic on its own.

The next time you plan a backyard bbq, give this rub a try on either pork or poultry.
