Basil Plant will produce all summer long.

The best way to keep your basil plant producing is to gather your basil often. If you see a flower bud forming, you should immediately pinch it off. The more you harvest your plant, the faster it grows.

  • Very good traditional Pesto recipe. Delicious and easy, too. If you want the pesto to maintain nice green color, add some parsley and a bit of Fruit Fresh. The citric acid in Fruit Fresh helps keep the Pesto from darkening too much.

I like the idea of freezing in an ice cube tray. Sometimes you just need a small amount. Also, the hint to snip the Basil to keep it producing fresh green leaves is spot on. My Old World Italian father-in-law always pulled his Basil up from the roots when he thought it was ready to harvest. I taught him the trick of continual pruning and his production soared.
