Mongolian Beef is a dish with thin sliced tender pieces of steak lightly fried then coated in a delicious sticky sweet and salty sauce. Traditionally this is not a spicy dish, but I love to add heat to everything so I threw in red chilies but this is completely optional. Feel free to add in some greens such as bok choy or broccoli if you'd like to add some veggies to the dish.
In my opinion, this is one of those dishes that taste even better the following day once the meat has had a chance to sit and soak up all the flavors from the sauce.

Ingredients
- 1lb flank steak
- olive or vegetable oil for frying
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 3 scallions
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp ginger
- 1/2 cup tamari or soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 - 4 red chilies (optional)
- 2 tbsp toasted white sesame seeds
Instructions
- Slice the flank steak against the grain in thin slices (1/4 inch)
- Toss the pieces of steak in the cornstarch, shaking off any excess
- Heat oil in a pan then add the pieces of steak in batches - be sure not to overcrowd the pan
- Cook until browned on each side then set aside
- Using the same pan, add more oil then the garlic, ginger, white ends of the scallions, and red chilies (if you are using them)
- While those cook in the pan, make your sauce by combining the tamari or soy sauce, water, and brown sugar in a bowl
- Add the sauce to the pan and let it thicken, then add in your cooked steak
- Mix together then garnish with sesame seeds and serve
