Braided Calzone Pizza with Pillsbury Pizza Dough

Here is what you will need:

  • Air fryer
  • Pillsbury pizza dough
  • Tomato sauce
  • Pizza topping of your choice (peperoni, sausages, vegetables etc.)
  • Grated cheese

How to make homemade pizza pockets in the air fryer

Step 1:

Take the dough from the container and roll it out onto a surface dusted with flour. The flour will prevent the dough from sticking.

Step 2:

Cut the rolled-out dough into a couple of square pieces of dough using a knife or a pizza cutter. Make sure the squares are big enough to be folded in half without any of the fillings spilling out, but also small enough to fit in the air fryer.

Step 3:

Put tomato sauce onto the triangular half of each of the dough squares and spread it out using a spoon. It is better to not spread the sauce towards the edges.

Step 4:

Take a topping of your choice like sausages and cut it into small bite sized pieces. Put the pieces on top of the sauce. This is the chance to get creative with the fillings. Mix up different options like veggies, mushrooms, pepperoni, etc. to come up with different “flavors” for your pizza pockets.

Step 5:

Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the fillings. Even though we want to make sure that there is enough cheese to give the perfect pizza effect, try not to go overboard with the cheese as that might make it difficult to close the squares in the next step.

Step 6:

Garnish with oregano and any other herbs or spices of your choice.

Step 7:

Take the empty part of the dough square and fold it over on top of the part with fillings. Line the edges properly and press with fingers to make sure the edges are stuck together.

Step 8:

Use a fork to press along the stuck edges of the pizza pockets. This will further seal the edges and give it a cool crust-like effect.

Step 9:

Place the pizza pockets inside the air fryer drawer and let it fry at 350°F or 180°C for about 5 minutes. The time might vary slightly depending on the type of air fryer. So, if the color does not look right, pop it in for a couple more minutes.

Once the pizza pockets have a slight golden color and the delicious smell is oozing out, you are done!

So next time you are looking for an activity, or a snack, for the little ones, try making these pizza pockets since they double as both. Serve it with the kids’ favorite sauces and dips and watch these disappear within minutes!
