🔄 Substitutions

Sausage- We use breakfast sausage for these sausage balls but you can use pretty much any ground pork sausage. Hot sausage or Italian sausage are both great if you like a little extra spice! If you can't find bulk sausage you can use sausage links with the casing removed.

Cheese- While sharp cheddar is a classic flavor in these tasty appetizers you can use different varieties of cheese if you'd like. Mild cheddar or Monterey jack add a more mild flavor or you can use pepper jack for a little spice.

❄️ Make Ahead Tips

To freeze these sausage balls-

After forming the balls and placing on a large baking sheet, place the uncooked sausage balls in the freezer until frozen. Remove the frozen balls from the baking sheet and place in an airtight container. When ready to bake remove them from the freezer, defrost, and bake according to the package directions. Or place them frozen on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes at 350.
