Watermelon Cooler Recipe

There are too many recipes out there that use sugary sodas and juices as the base for their drinks. And most of these recipes seem complicated or time-consuming.

This watermelon cooler is simple, delicious, and easy to make at home with only a few ingredients! All it takes is a blender (or food processor) and a few minutes of your time.

Plus this recipe doesn’t use sugar or artificial sweeteners like Splenda and Equal so you can enjoy a refreshingly healthy beverage without any guilt!

I’ve sweetened it with honey. But, if you prefer, you can add monkfruit or stevia instead.

I’m not a big fan of drinking plain water. I know it’s good for me. But, I really prefer things that have a bit more flavor to them. However, I don’t want to drink soda or fruit drinks because they are usually loaded with extra sugar.

This watermelon cooler recipe is a wonderful way to stay hydrated. Watermelons are 92% water so it’s a fantastic way to get extra water without drinking plain water.

What type of watermelon is best?

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter what type you use. If you have one growing in the garden, you can certainly use whatever variety you have. Or, pick one up at the store and let the kids enjoy slices of whatever is left over.

You will need to remove the seeds first. So, if you want to get one that’s seedless, it will eliminate that step.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes, you can make this watermelon cooler recipe up three days ahead of time and keep it in the refrigerator. Just stir it before you serve it. If you have leftovers, keep them in the refrigerator.

Remember not to add the ice until right before you serve it so that it doesn’t get watered down.

Watermelon cooler recipe garnishes

You can add these garnishes to the side of your drink if you want to but it’s completely optional. It helps dress up the glass if you’re serving this at a party or barbecue.

  • Mint sprigs
  • Lemon wheels
  • Lime wedges
  • Mini wedge of melon

What type of glass should I serve this in?

Any glass is fine as long as it is large enough to hold at least 8 ounces. I often use Mason jars in the summer when we serve this at a barbecue because I have so many. But, any type of glass is fine.

You can also serve this in a pitcher or a drink dispenser at a barbecue or picnic and let people help themselves. In that case, a plastic cup would work to avoid accidents outside.
