Apple Turnovers

These apple turnover are easy to make and a great way to use up apples from your fall apple picking adventure. Simply dice the apples, toss them in brown sugar and fill them into a flaky puff pastry dough and bake! Add in caramel bites and other candies to make them extra delicious!

My big girl just turned e-l-e-v-e-n!! I’m not even sure how this is possible, because I swear I am only 28!!! But somehow the hands of time just keep on moving and making us both older…and her taller!

For her birthday we went apple picking with my parents and my mother-in-law. We had such a nice time. This was our first apple season in Wisconsin but I do have to say that we had such a nice time I wasn’t sad about the beautiful mountain views until I realized I wasn’t going to get my annual Bruce Family Apple Picking Photo at our favorite mountain top orchard since 2010…oh well! Time for new memories!


Anyway, since we have so many apples to use up, my daughter and her friend made apple turnovers for all of us to enjoy! With just a little explanation of how to make these super easy apple turnovers I was literally able to turnover my kitchen to them and they made these all on their own! …I’m loving this part of them being older! They can make ME food for a change!! 🙂

These apple turnovers were absolutely delicious and I love that you can change them up by adding whichever ingredients you’d like! They were such a nice change to my usual apple recipe, my Classic All-American Apple Pie (with raisins!!).


Apple Turnover Ingredients
  • Apples, 1 large apple or 2 smaller sized apples
  • Puff Pastry Sheets, 1 package
  • 1/4 light brown sugar
  • Optional: Caramel Bits, Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids (I know these may sound totally insane, but they are delicious, I promise!)
Preparing The Apples
  1. Peel the apples
  2. Slice into thin slices or into 1/2″ cubes
  3. Toss apples with 1/4 cup brown sugar

Preparing The Crust Turnovers
  1. Roll out pastry puff dough
  2. Using a circle cookie cutter, cut out as many circles as possible
  3. Optional: using leaf fondant stampers, cut out smaller shapes for additional embellishments on the top of your turnovers
  4. Arrange circle pastry puffs on a baking sheet
  5. Fill 1/2 of each circle with apples
  6. Fold pastry puff over and seal edges with a fork
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 14-16 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky

Bake and enjoy!

Instructions


Roll out pastry puff dough
Using a circle cookie cutter, cut out as many circles as possible
Optional: using smaller cookie press cutters, cut out smaller shapes for additional embellishments on the top of your turnovers
Arrange circle pastry puffs on a baking sheet
Fill 1/2 of each circle with applesFold pastry puff over and seal edges with a fork
Bake at 350 degrees for 14-16 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky
