  • Buns - I used brioche buns for this beef burger but you can use your favorite buns.
  • Sauteed Mushrooms - I like using baby bella mushrooms that have been sliced but you can use white mushrooms, golden mushrooms, or your favorite type of mushroom.
  • Butter - adds richness to the flavor of the onions and mushrooms but you can just use olive oil.
  • Salt and Pepper - use these to your preferred taste.
  • Worcestershire Sauce - adds a tanginess to the meat that just gives it that burger perfection!
  • Sweet Yellow Onion - can be substituted with a red onion or shallots.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided (or use olive oil)
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup sweet yellow onion, sliced or diced
  • salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 hamburger buns
Instructions

Preheat your large skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes (must be very hot to sear the burgers).
As the skillet is heating up, combine the ground beef, steak seasoning, and Worcestershire sauce and form them into patties. The patties should be slightly larger than the buns since they shrink as they cook.1 pound ground beef, 1 tablespoon steak seasoning, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
When the skillet is hot enough, add half of the butter (prevents sticking), then add the patties and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side.2 tablespoons butter, divided
While the burgers are cooking, in a separate pan, sauté the sliced mushrooms and onions in the remaining butter (with some salt and pepper if desired) until they become tender and caramelized.8 ounces sliced mushrooms, 1 cup sweet yellow onion, sliced or diced, salt and black pepper
Once the burgers are cooked to your preferred level of doneness, place 2 slices of Swiss cheese on top of each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to let the cheese melt.4 slices Swiss cheese
