What are the ingredients of Instant Pot Applesauce?

This is the truly crazy part. The only thing you absolutely need to make this applesauce is…. apples. Seriously, that’s it.

This recipe does include a few other ingredients including sugar, cinnamon, and butter, but these are all optional.

You can absolutely make it with just a bunch of nice, sweet apples. Add the sugar if you like it a little sweet (add more or less sugar to suit your personal preference).

If you want a bit of spice, add the cinnamon (again, add more or less to your liking).

And if you want a bit of a richer mouthfeel and flavor, add that butter.

Add a splash of lemon juice if you want a little tart tang, or a pinch of salt if it needs it to balance the sweetness.

What are the best apples to use for applesauce?

You can really use any apples you like for applesauce.

I like to use Fuji apples since I love them and often have them around. I even have a fuji apple tree in my backyard.

Other good applesauce apples are Gala, McIntosh, or Honeycrisp. Or use a combo for even better flavor. Sometimes I’ll toss in one or two Granny Smith apples for their tartness.
