I love this classic hummus recipe because it involves minimal ingredients and it comes together in just a few minutes. It is also such a great base recipe that taste great on its own or can be used as the starting point for your other favorite hummus flavors like pesto hummus, roast red pepper hummus or a roasted garlic hummus.

You can use this hummus in so many ways! You can always use it as a classic dip for your pretzels, veggies, and crackers. This also serves as a great spread on sandwiches and spreads or you can dollop it on top of salads from some extra nutrition.

Another great way to use this recipe is to only pulse it halfway to leave some chickpeas a little more whole and then add in some fresh herbs like dill and parsley, a little greek yogurt and lemon to make fresh chickpea salad!

I hope you enjoy this classic hummus recipe. Check out more recipes on my blog - www.sweetescapekitchen.com

Ingredients

  • 1 can of chickpeas, rinsed
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • 1 - 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
Instructions

Drain your chickpeas and give them a rinse under cold water.
Dump your chickpeas, tahini, lemon, salt, pepper, garlic powder and 1 tbsp of olive oil into your food processor and pulse.
You may need to scrape down the sides of your food processor a few times but continue pulsing. If you prefer a creamier hummus feel free to add the remaining olive oil. Pulse until completely smooth.
Taste your hummus and add additional salt based on your preference.
Once satisfied with the consistency and flavor, transfer to a bowl. You can pour additional olive oil and your favorite seasonings on top. I've added crushed red pepper flakes and extra black pepper to mine. Serve with your favorite crackers, veggies, chips, etc!
Tips
  • Store in air tight container in the fridge for up to five days!
