If you have leftover bread from breakfast or a loaf going stale in your bread box this easy bread pudding recipe will have you baking up one of the best homemade dessert recipes using day old bread.
This simple recipe is made with day-old bread and is one of the most asked for desserts from my recipe collection.
I started with French bread, but you can easily use any type of day-old bread you have in the house.

Bread Pudding With Cinnamon & Raisins
Recipe details
Ingredients
- 6 cups french bread pieces, cubed
- ½ cup raisins
- 6 eggs
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract or maple syrup
- 3 cups heavy cream or milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9×13 casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Place the bread in the casserole dish. Evenly spread the raisins across the bread, allowing some to fall to the bottom.
- Whisk together the remaining ingredients until completely blended. Pour egg mixture over the bread.
- Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and allow the casserole to rest on the counter for 30 minutes.
- Transfer to the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes covered. Remove the aluminum foil and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes.
- Serve as is or with real whipped cream, ice cream, and/or sauce.

Your recipes look great and I definitely will try some. Your Bread Pudding sounds just like what my mother use to bake. One of our favorite desserts. We always liked the custard on the bottom!
Ellen, would you happen to have the traditional rum or vanilla sauce that goes over this bread pudding I'd rather have the vanilla as I dont drink. Any help you could offer I'd really appreciate it. Thank you I'll be making this on the weekend infact Sunday morning before we go to church. Thanks again DawnyZ
