🍎 Frequently Asked Questions:

This apple pie recipe with puff pastry is easy to make and will please everyone at the dinner table.

Here are some tips and tricks to making these even more delicious.

Do you thaw frozen apples before making pie?

Yes! If you don't thaw frozen apples before making pie, you will end up with a watery soggy pie or apple turnover. Fresh apples are always best when baking any type of apple dessert.

Should you cook apples before putting them in a pie? No, there is no need to. The apples will cook in the oven during the cooking process.

Can you use puff pastry on the base of a pie? Yes, you can use puff pastry on the base of a pie, but keep in mind the crust will be flakier and crispier compared to traditional pie crust.

How can you use extra apple pie filling that didnt fit into the pie? I love to use leftover apple pie filling in homemade muffins, over ice cream as an ice cream topping, I also love to turn it into homemade apple syrup that can be drizzled over waffles and pancakes!

Tips
  • Recipe Notes:
  • 🍎You can peel the apples and pears if you want. It's really based on your preference. We enjoy the fruit skins in our pastries and pies and in doing so, we get more nutritional value out of the fruit.
  • 🍎 Cooking the apples and pears prior to adding them to the pastry is not recommended as it tends to make the pies very soggy. However, if you prefer to do that here are the instructions:
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; cook butter over medium heat until golden brow. Stir the sliced apples and pears into hot butter; sprinkle with ¼ cup  brown sugar, and salt. Cook and stir the apple and pear mixture until apples and pears are softened, about 5 minutes. Mix in cinnamon and water; continue cooking until apples are soft and sticky, 1 to 2 more minutes. Spread apple filling onto a plate to cool.
  • 🍎 I added a super easy recipe on how to make your own pumpkin spice at home. It's super easy and you can make a big batch of pumpkin spice to have on hand in your pantry all year long! See the recipe card above for full instructions.
