I am a big fan of seltzer water in pretty much any form. Flavored or unflavored, I love a cold glass of bubbly water. It is a great way to cool down, especially on those hot summer days! I had the idea to make a homemade lemonade version, adding in some fresh fruit and herbs from the garden to make it even more delicious.

This easy strawberry lemonade recipe is very simple and straightforward, and is a great way to use up some of that fresh summer produce that you may have growing around your garden. Something about the sweet strawberries combined with the tart lemons makes for a great glass of lemonade. Your taste buds will thank you!

It can easily be whipped up on a whim during the hot summer months. No simple syrup required! Let’s get to it.

Ingredients

To make this fun twist on classic lemonade, you will need a few simple ingredients:

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
  • 8-10 fresh basil leaves
  • 16 oz sparkling mineral water or club soda (about 2 cups of water)

How to Make Homemade Strawberry Lemonade

  1. Start by slicing lemons in half and gathering 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. The amount of lemons you will need will vary based on how big your lemons are. I used 3 large lemons for this recipe.
  2. Strain the lemon juice through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, and then add to a large pitcher. Add lemon juice and honey to a large pitcher, stirring to combine until the honey has dissolved.
  3. Add in the strawberry slices and basil leaves. Top the lemonade with 16 oz of your favorite sparkling water (I used San Pellegrino). Stir well.
  4. Serve over ice with an extra basil leaf for garnish (and extra strawberries and lemon slices if you wish!)
  5. Sit back and enjoy a tall glass of fresh ice-cold lemonade 🙂 the best way to spend a summer afternoon… you can’t beat it!

Tips for Success + Variations

  • Straining the lemon juice is optional, but I highly recommend it to get rid of any stray lemon seeds or pulp.
  • This recipe could easily accommodate different flavors. Try swapping out the sweet basil for mint!
  • If you prefer your lemonade to be less sweet, cut down the amount of honey to 1/4 cup. You could also just add more sparkling water.
  • For another delicious spin on this recipe, add in 2 cups of blended ice for a refreshing frozen drink! You could also add in frozen strawberry puree.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled to serve a larger crowd!
