As a coffee lover, I adore the fall season for its pumpkin spice flavors that seem to be everywhere, especially in lattes at all of the coffee shops.
While I often enjoy my homemade healthy pumpkin spiced latte, I love making an iced version for a refreshing twist as the warm weather usually extends well into October and even November.
Using real pumpkin purée, a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice and honey, my iced pumpkin spiced latte captures the cozy fall vibes without the sugar crash of what I see in the coffee shops. Serve it with my Pumpkin Pie Spice Pancakes for a nice breakfast!
Over the years, I've become quite selective about my spice latte recipe, finding the original Starbucks version too sugary and phony tasting.
My homemade version not only uses real pumpkin for a richer flavor, but is also more affordable and customizable with your choice of coffee, milk, and optional whipped cream. This quick and easy recipe, ready in under 5 minutes, is a delicious, healthier alternative that you'll want to make again and again.

- A Taste Of Fall: Spicy, cozy, and a touch of sweetness. Who doesn't love that?
- Customizable: It can be made dairy-free, or even caffeine-free.
- Better for you than Starbucks: Much less sugar and made with real simple ingredients. Plus, it's a lot cheaper than buying it at the coffee shop!
You will need the following ingredients to make this Iced Pumpkin Latte:
Ingredient Notes
- I like using an organic pumpkin puree that is canned. Please do not use a pumpkin pie puree, you want pure pumpkin for this recipe!

- Whipped Cream - Optional, but it adds richness to the coffee. You can make your own with heavy whipping cream or coconut cream and add sugar to taste.
- Coffee - This recipe calls for espresso; however, you can use 2 teaspoons of instant espresso. You can use regular drip coffee or even cold brew coffee. Just adjust the amount accordingly. Espresso is more concentrated than drip coffee.
- Honey - You can substitute maple syrup for the honey if you prefer, or omit it altogether.
- Pumpkin Spice Mix - You can use a store-bought pumpkin pie spice or you can make your own. See the recipe for a homemade pumpkin spice blend below.
- Vanilla Extract - You can add a touch of vanilla extract to bring out the sweetness.
- Milk - I suggest whole milk; however, you can replace the dairy with any non-dairy substitute like unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk. I love unsweetened coconut milk and then I use an almond milk half & half to increase the creaminess.
- Sugar-Free - I love using honey or maple syrup, but, if you want to make this latte sugar-free you can use a substitute like Stevia.
How To Make Iced Pumpkin Spiced Latte: Step-By-Step
Here are some quick visual instructions. Remember that full instructions with the exact ingredients are in the printable recipe card:
Step 1: Add espresso, pumpkin puree, honey, and pumpkin spice to a cup.
Step 2: Add your milk of choice.
Step 3: Using a milk frother, froth and mix the milk into the ingredients in your cup.
Step 4: Top with whipped cream and a touch of cinnamon and enjoy.
Blending - If you don't have a frother, you can use a blender, cocktail shaker or even just a whisk. The purpose is to make sure that all of the ingredients are well blended.
You can make this a hot pumpkin spiced latte instead of the iced version if you like!
After blending, simply add all ingredients to a saucepan and heat until warm or warm them in a microwave safe cup. Do not serve over ice.
No pumpkin pie spice? It’s easy to make your own. Just mix these spices together and enjoy in your latte and other favorite pumpkin recipes! To make pumpkin spice, here’s what you need:
- 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Ginger
- ¼ teaspoon Cloves
- ¼ teaspoon Nutmeg
- pinch of Allspice if you have it
You’ll need about a half cup of chilled/cold strong coffee per serving of Iced Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Here are some to do that:
- Make a batch of Cold Brew Coffee using a French Press coffee maker.
- Make the coffee with an Espresso Machine and then chill the espresso.
- Brew a strong pot of coffee with a Drip Coffee Maker.
- Use a Moka Pot espresso coffee maker.
- Whip up a batch of instant coffee. Nescafe works!
What I love about using cold brew in this recipe is that it produces a rich, strong coffee concentrate. I let it brew overnight, then when I’m ready for a latte, it’s already at either room temperature or chilled.
For other fall flavors, I love the taste of apple like in my Apple Cranberry Torte or my Honeycrisp Baked Apples!
The syrup that gives this latte its unique flavor at Starbucks is made with ingredients including sugar, condensed milk, pumpkin puree and other natural flavors. Our version cuts down on the sugar and doesn't use condensed milk making it healthier.
What is the difference between an iced coffee and an iced latte? An iced latte is made with espresso and milk. An iced coffee is made with brewed coffee and can be served with or without any added milk.
