Midori Sour

1 cocktail

This lighter twist on a classic Midori Sour uses fresh lemon juice, unsweetened pineapple juice, and a hefty splash of club soda to lighten things up a bit.

Don’t get me wrong, Midori has a great flavor, but it can be overpowering. So many Midori sour recipes are too sweet and simply use store-bought sour mix that makes them overly sweet and cloying for my liking.

This Midori Sour Cocktail is lightly sweet, a little tart, and more grown up than that super sweet cocktail you sipped on at the bar in your early 20s. It is actually refreshing to sip with strong melon undertones.

FAQS:

What is Midori?Midori is a bright green melon flavored liqueur first manufactured in Japan. It’s on the lighter side of ABV at only 20-21%. Midori is best mixed with other liquors or mixers that are not heavily sweetened.

Can I use sour mix for this recipe?Yes, try my homemade sour mix instead of the fresh lemon and pineapple juice. Homemade sour mix is lightly sweetened with agave nectar and uses fresh squeezed lemon and lime juice.

INGREDIENTS FOR RECIPE:

  • Midori: Adds the melon flavor to the cocktail.
  • Vodka: Any vodka you like will work in this recipe.
  • Pineapple juice: An unsweetened pineapple juice works best.

INGREDIENT SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Midori: Any melon liqueur can be used, but the flavor will be slightly sweeter than using Midori.
  • Club soda: Sparkling water or tonic also work. Tonic will leave a slightly bitter aftertaste. For a sweeter approach, try lemon-lime soda.

RECIPE NOTES:

  • Fresh or pineapple juice with no added sweeteners works best for this cocktail.
  • Highball glasses are frequently used for mixed drinks that contain a larger proportion of mixers than will fit into a typical rocks glass.
