Grapefruit Ginger Bourbon Slush

A refreshing, sweet, tangy summer drink with ginger ale and grapefruit juice. This drink comes together in minutes and is a cool sip on a hot day.

These last few weeks have been the perfect summer weather; warm, dry, and below 85. It has given us so much time to spend outside; we garden and go on afternoon walks around the property.

Occasionally I like to enjoy a summer drink while we walk; we chat about our to-do list and watch our pup, Jupiter as he tries to follow the deer trails. Not a bad summer afternoon, right!?

A slushy cocktail is a perfect drink to enjoy on a summer walk and I often have this grapefruit ginger bourbon slush in hand or this peach wine slush.

What I love about this drink is that it tastes like a dessert and feels like a cocktail. Garnish it with grapefruit slices and rosemary and you’ve got a fancy snowcone! Better yet, it takes minutes to come together; fresh grapefruit juice, ginger ale, bourbon, and ice blended until perfectly slushy.

My favorite ingredient in this drink is the ginger ale. Ginger is one of my favorite flavors to use in recipes and it is my go-to natural stomach soother. If you are like me and have a sensitive stomach, try these ginger candies.

Ginger shows up in a lot of my drink recipes like this ginger cranberry gin fizz or this blood orange ginger mimosa. Another way I love to use ginger is in my baked goods. Fresh ginger is so flavorful and complements so many other flavors; this lemon ginger bundt cake is one of my favorites.

The ginger and grapefruit create the perfect blend between tangy and sweet and a little kick from the bourbon. Fresh grapefruit juice should be used for the best flavor, but store-bought works well also.

This recipe would also be great with vodka or gin, so put your favorite liquor in! Take out the liquor for a great summer drink for the kids.
