This frozen margarita is so easy to make! It is fun to whip up for a crowd or Mexican food night at home!

A Classic Margarita!

This Frozen Margarita is a bit of a family tradition. We serve this drink at all of our family get togethers. My mom and aunts have perfected this margarita over the years, and I compare every margarita I drink to this recipe! You can easily make this recipe in bulk for a crowd or a small batch for Mexican night at home.

What You Will Need to Make Frozen Margaritas:
  • Blender
  • TONS of ice
  • Tequila
  • Triple Sec Orange Liqueur
  • Minute Maid Frozen Limeade

What type of tequila should I use to make a margarita?

For this recipe, I usually use blanco tequila. Reposado tequila is also a good option for an added smooth oak flavor.

Can I add different flavors to the margarita?

Yes! You can turn this Easy 3 Ingredient Frozen Margarita into a Frozen Strawberry Margarita. Do this by adding frozen strawberries in syrup to the blender along with all other ingredients. To make a “healthier version,” add plain frozen strawberries instead of strawberries in syrup.

How do I store leftover margaritas?

Leftovers? No comprende. IF you have leftovers, or want to make a batch of these ahead of time, put the margaritas in the freezer. Before you serve them again, put them back in the blender to remix the ingredients.

How did the margarita come to be?

It’s hard to say exactly who created the margarita. Stories of its creation are as numerous as the variations of the drink itself. It is safe to say the drink was originally created in the early 1940s. It may have evolved from The Daisy, a classic cocktail popular around that time. The Daisy was a mix of alcohol, citrus juice, and orange cordial served over shaved ice. Fun Fact: “margarita” is the Spanish word for “daisy.”

When did the frozen margarita become popular?

When blenders began to appear in bars in the 1950s, the frozen margarita gained popularity. In 1971, Dallas restaurant owner Mariano Martinez created the first frozen margarita machine. He did this to keep up with demand for blender-made frozen margaritas. Today, his restaurants, Mariano’s Hacienda and La Hacienda Ranch, can be found in a few Texas cities – Addison, Colleyville, Dallas, and Frisco. You can find his original machine in the Smithsonian museum.
