Are you in love with spicy foods? Spicy Roasted Chickpeas are the perfect snack that won’t have you feeling guilty about eating them by the handfuls. This simple oven prepared snack is easy and delicious! All you need to do is grab a can of garbanzo beans, also known as chickpeas, add some olive oil, a few simple spices, and get them in the oven!

So, what do you know about chickpeas? I’ve covered everything from what they are, how to store them, and more. Keep reading to find out the best way to prepare spicy roasted chickpeas.

WHAT ARE CHICKPEAS?

The earliest recording of what we know as chickpeas came from Turkey around 3500 BCE and then later in India. Like other peas and beans, chickpeas grow in pods on vines. They are packed full of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and more.

Chickpeas are also known as garbanzo beans in the grocery store. They are one and the same. You’ve probably had hummus at an event or two. Did you know it is made with chickpeas?

ARE CHICKPEAS REALLY HEALTHY?

One of the best features of the chickpea is they are incredibly high in protein. This makes them a fantastic substitute for vegetarians or vegans trying to find a meat and protein substitute. They taste amazing and can be an easy healthy dish to make. Here you can find eight great reasons you should start enjoying this snack today.

HOW TO MAKE SPICY ROASTED CHICKPEAS

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Drain and rinse chickpeas thoroughly. Once rinsed, place them on a paper towel and pat dry. This is a crucial step that should not be missed. Rinsing and drying gives them the extra crunch you are looking for.
  • Combine chickpeas with 2 tbsp Olive Oil, 2 tsp Chili Powder, 1/2 tsp Onion Powder, 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder, 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper (add less if you like less hot spice), 1/2 tsp Salt and 1/2 tsp Pepper in a small bowl.
  • Cover your favorite baking pan with parchment paper or spray lightly with cooking spray. Evenly spread out the chickpeas in one layer.
  • Once your oven has reached 400 degrees Fahrenheit, place the pan into the oven for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, turn your oven off but leave the chickpeas inside. As the oven cools down, they will further dehydrate, giving the chickpeas the perfect crunch.

HOW TO SERVE SPICY ROASTED CHICKPEAS

This flavorful snack can be an excellent substitute for potato chips or other snacks you would have for a game or movie night. Set this healthy snack out for guests instead of nuts, you’ll find it goes perfectly with a cold beer.

Spicy chickpeas are also a fun addition to your favorite salads. They add a little spicy crunch and extra flavor to your lettuce.

Another one of my favorite snacks to make is my delicious Fiesta Ranch Crackers. I bet you’ll love them too!
