This year Christmas might feel a little different but there’s traditions we all have that can always make us feel excited for the holiday season, for me its definitely spending time in the kitchen experimenting with and baking Christmas treats. This recipe may seem like it’s hard to make but its really not, in fact it’s so easy and requires limited use of a stove which makes it the perfect dessert to make with kids. Trust me, the hardest part all together was forming the cone shapes, but we made it work! I like to have fun when I'm cooking or baking and attempting recipes, and it’s fun when it’s done with family or friends. Baking and/or cooking with friends and family always makes for the best memories, I know I definitely made some memories with my little sister making these as we attempted to land marshmallows into each other’s mouths ha-ha. That being said, don’t be afraid to experiment with the food coloring, the decorating, and even the way you shape the Christmas trees. I did it so that they stand up but you can always use cookie cutters and make them flat!

Ingredients
For the Rice Krispie
  • 3-4 tbsp of butter
  • 6 cups of rice krispie cereal
  • 6 cups of mini marshmallows
  • 2-3 tbsp of green food coloring
For decorating
  • 8 mini Reese's peanut butter cups
  • 1 bag of mini m&m's or sprinkles
  • 1/4 cup of vanilla icing
  • 1/4 of coconut flakes
  • 1-2 tbsp of powdered sugar or icing sugar to sprinkle for snow effect
Instructions
For making the rice krispie tree
Add the butter to a heated pot. Make sure the stove is set to low so you don't burn the butter or marshmallows.
Once the butter has melted add the marshmallows to the pot and continuously stir until they have all melted
Add the green food coloring, add until you have reached your desired green colour. Keep in mind that it will look lighter when it's mixed with the cereal so don't worry about it looking too dark in the pot.
Remove from the heat and mix in the rice krispie cereal.
Let it cool down for 4-5 min
Begin to shape into cones! Set them aside for an hour or so before you eat them. You do not cook them, you just need to set them aside in the fridge for an hour to harden.
For decorating
Use the mini Reese's pieces peanut butter cups as the tree stumps, the m&m's as ornaments, the powdered sugar, icing, and coconut flakes as snow. Remember to have fun with it ! You can always decorate them however you'd like but this is how I did it.

Sure looks easy enough, which I'll try. But not this year Christmas is not the same as years past. Wishing you a Merry Christmas.
