I absolutely love a good French Toast, but the thought of cooking it for a crowd sounds so time consuming. I love this version because I can assemble it fairly quickly, put it in the oven and forget about it. Not only does this free up time to put together a few sides, but it also means that everyone can enjoy the dish while it’s hot and fresh out of the oven. It’s a great make ahead breakfast for busy mornings or big holiday gatherings. I like to use brioche bread that has been left out for several hours. I like the slight sweetness the brioche adds and letting it dry out a bit beforehand ensures that you don’t end up with a soggy French toast. I love serving this with a good drizzle of real maple syrup, a side of bacon and some fresh fruit.

Begin by buttering a 9x13” baking dish. Slice the brioche bread into 1” cubes and place in the dish.

Pour the egg mixture over the bread.

I like to drizzle some additional maple syrup and melted butter over the bread before baking.

Bake until all of the egg has cooked and the bread is a gorgeous golden brown color.

Drizzle with some maple syrup and enjoy!

Try adding fresh blueberries to the bread before baking for an equally delicious variation!

How many cups of bread or what size loaf?

Just a standard loaf of bread.... the measurements for the bread doesn’t need to be precise for this one. As long as you have enough to loosely fill the pan. Hope that helps 😊

We make this with raisins in, we call it bread pudding. Its eaten as a desert, you can also pour custard over the top.

French toast to us is slices of bread dipped in mixed egg & milk with salt & pepper, then fried in a frying pan until it turns a nice golden colour, serve on its own or with bacon.
