I lost my dad a few weeks before Father’s Day last year, and mostly I just wanted to put my head under the covers and pretend that the holiday wasn’t happening. This year though, I’m feeling much stronger, and I’m looking forward to spending the day with my father-in-law and brother-in-law, and my mom who, let’s be honest, filled both mother and father roles for me for a lot of my life.

Father’s Day has traditionally been a grilling day for my family, and even though this year we’re having a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs at my father-in-law’s request I highly recommend you give these Steak Frites Burgers a try for your own get-togethers. Or really just any day that you want a good burger.

And for all of you who are struggling with this day, please know that you’re not alone. I see you, and my heart goes out to you.

  • 2 large or 3 medium Yukon Gold potatoes*
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the A1 Mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon A1 sauce
Instructions
To Make Steak Frites Burgers with A1 Mayonnaise
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet, and toast buns until lightly browned, about 2 minutes each.
Shape the beef into 4 equal patties
Cook burgers over medium heat until medium inside - about 4/6 minutes per side. Add cheese to the burgers during the last minute of cooking.
While burgers are cooking, make your fries. Slice the potatoes and coat with 1 tablespoon of oil and season with salt and pepper. If using an Air Fryer, bake at 400 for 18-20 minutes or until crisp and cooked through. If using an oven, bake at 400 for 25-30 minutes turning halfway through. If using frozen fries, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
In a small bowl combine mayo and A1 sauce.
Serve each patty on a toasted bun topped with fries and slathered with the A1 mayo.
Tips
  • *frozen fries can be substituted
