Mexican Style Turkey Burger

I am a fan of turkey burgers, especially in the summer months. They are lighter than beef burgers and easy to make for the family's weeknight dinner.

Here are all the ingredients I used. Note: I used egg substitute, but it can also be made with egg whites. And I used GF Italian Bread Crumbs to make these turkey burgers, but they can be replaced with regular Panko breadcrumbs or Italian bread crumbs. If you use GF bread crumbs, use it sparingly because it will dry the turkey burger out of you use too much.

I cooked them in a skillet. They can also be cooked on the grill. Visit the recipe for details on both options.

I added chipotle mayo (made with avocado oil) to the top and added some sliced American cheese cut in half, and crossed on the burger. Yum!

I also made one that was with no bun. This turkey burger recipe can also be frozen after it is made but before it is cooked.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Turkey
  • One tsp dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2 tsp Granulated Garlic
  • Two eggs
  • 2 Tbsp Salsa (Your favorite type) Mild
  • 1 cups of Panko Breadcrumbs
Instructions

First, place all the ingredients into a bowl and mix well. Add the breadcrumbs last a bit at a time so you can make sure the mix isn't too sticky. It holds up better in the freezer if it is less sticky. If you use gluten-free breadcrumbs, it may get dry fast, so how much GF breadcrumbs you add.
Then, form the burgers. This recipe makes 6 burgers. I don't like my burgers too large, so 6 burgers make a good serving size.
At this point, to cook on the grill, use non-stick spray on one size and place it on the grill. Cook for 6-10 minutes and then turn over and cook for another 6-10 minutes or until done. Make sure there is no pink inside.
Or, if you want, you can place it in a non-stick skillet with a little oil or spray in the pan and cook it for 6-10 minutes on each side or until finished.
Tips
  • You can add more salsa if you like it. If you love spicy, feel free to replace spicy salsa with the mild variety.
