Peanut Butter White Russian

A Peanut Butter White Russian is a delicious twist on a classic cocktail. It’s smooth and creamy and quite possibly the perfect after dinner treat.

While a classic White Russian cocktail recipe calls for vodka, we’re mixing things up a bit and substituting peanut butter whiskey for the vodka. The result? A sweet treat that you’re going to wish you had discovered sooner.

Yes, I know some of the purists out there might consider it sacrilege to change up the ingredients in a classic cocktail, but trust me, it is absolutely delicious. Haven’t tried peanut butter whiskey yet? This is the perfect drink to give it a shot.

FAQS:

What’s the difference between a White Russian cocktail and a Black Russian cocktail? Both cocktails are served in a rocks glass over ice, and both incorporate vodka and Kahlua. The difference is that a White Russian adds cream to the cocktail. The names are derived from the color of the drinks.

What flavor is Kahlua?Kahlua is a coffee flavored liqueur. Don’t worry, it’s not bitter—it’s actually quite sweet. It’s a Mexican liqueur that is made from rum, sugar, and coffee.

Does peanut butter whiskey actually taste like peanut butter? In my opinion, it is a sweet whiskey with subtle notes of peanut butter, definitely not overbearing. Real peanuts are actually used in making Skrewball’s Peanut Butter Whiskey. While I enjoy this whiskey, if you are a whiskey purist, this is may not for you.

HOW TO PREPARE:

You will need these ingredients ⇧
  • Fill a rocks glass with ice.
  • Pour in the peanut butter whiskey, then the Kahlua. Slowly pour the half and half over the top.
  • Stir slowly to combine the ingredients. Alternatively, some people prefer their White Russian shaken. This creates a super frothy drink.
Pour the peanut butter whiskey over ice.
Add the Kahlua to the glass.
Slowly pour the half and half ove the ice.
Add a stir stick and serve.

INGREDIENT SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • If you don’t have half and half on hand, whole milk can be substituted. It’s just not quite as creamy.
  • Some people prefer heavy cream over the half and half for an ultra rich, creamy cocktail.
  • Milk allergy—substitute any milk alternative you like. Coconut cream can also be used.

RECIPE NOTES:

  • I used a whiskey ice ball rather than traditional cubes. This chills the drink quickly and keeps it cold without diluting the cocktail as quickly.
  • I used my homemade Kahlua that a friend gave to me as a gift. If you’re interested in making your own coffee liqueur, check out DIY Coffe Liqueur at Serious Eats.
