I cannot say how many times I have made this French Green Beans with Shallots recipe. French Green Beans are thin, tender and very delicious with just a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. To elevate the taste of the green beans shallots are a perfect compliment!!! Sautéed jammy shallots are such a simply scrumptious ingredient to cook with the French green beans.

WHAT ARE FRENCH GREEN BEANS?

French Green Beans are also known as Haricot Verts which are their official French name,”haricot” meaning bean and “vert” green. French green beans or Haricot Verts and American green beans have some differences. French green beans or Haricot Verts are more tender, longer, and thinner than the thicker and heartier American green beans.

When grown French Green Beans (Haricot Verts) have a full green bean flavor early in their development. They are tender and thin in size. As for American green beans, their immature green beans cannot be replaced for the skinny French green beans (Haricot Verts). They need to be at their full growth to become tender and they are much thicker than their French green beans counterpart.

  • Tried your recipe, and it is marvelous! Adore French green beans and one of my friends has a magnificent garden and they grow them almost all year long. And who doesn't like shallots? Think it is the pinch of sugar that makes the difference. Easy, simple and delicious. Thanks for sharing.
