I’m so excited to be sharing this easy garlic challah recipe with you guys, it’s a “recipe” I use often, but most of the time I prepare this garlic topping once shabbat begins and never get to take a photo!

This week I had some extra time and snapped this shot for Instagram and you all loved it! So I turned it into a post 🙂

Enjoy!

What is garlic Challah?

Garlic challah is one of my favorite ways to eat challah! Hot fresh challah out of the oven slathered in garlic is the perfect way to start your shabbat meal.

It’s also a perfect way to doctor up a bakery challah if you don’t have time to bake.

What do you need to make this garlic challah recipe?

This super simple recipe requires only 4 ingredients!

First of course, you’ll need a challah, I highly recommend you try to bake it yourself using my famous challah recipe from the blog. But, if you don’t have time or energy to bake challah – I GET YOU!!! Bakery challah is perfect for this.

Garlic – I like to use fresh or frozen crushed garlic.

Olive oil – good quality mild flavored olive oil is best.

Parsley – chop up some fresh parsley, or use frozen if you can’t get fresh.

How to make garlic challah?

I love this recipe because it’s super quick and easy and no cooking or baking required!

  1. Just mix up all the ingredients.
  2. And spread it over the challah.
  3. Then eat it!!!
Can you freeze garlic challah?

I recommend freezing the challah without this garlic topping. Before serving, defrost the challah and warm it up in a hot oven for a few minutes. Then top it with the garlic mixture before serving.

The blessing over the challah dough

Traditionally when baking challah with over 2 kilos of flour there is a Bracha (blessing) that is made on the dough. Learn more about that here.

  • Garlic and parsley, two of my favorite things, I put that in or on almost everything savory. My grandmother taught me how to make challah 50+ years ago. It's been decades since I have made any. And miss the "proper" local bakeries that used to dot the neighborhoods. There isn't one in the area I live in. Next time I have the time, or make the trek to purchase some, I will use this handy shortcut. Thanks for the story and sharing!
