Simple Recipe for Cranberry Orange Smoothie

A good smoothie is easy to drink, it’s smooth! No chunks of fruit or ice, and not runny like a juice. The key is to use the right ratio of ingredients. When making a smoothie I like to use the follow base.

  • 2 parts Frozen fruit
  • 2 parts liquid – milk, juice, water
  • 1 part yogurt

Once you have the basic smoothie down, experiment with add ins. I like to add a banana to almost every drink I make, including this cranberry orange smoothie. I count it as an add in, along with honey. If your drink is too thick, add liquid. Too runny, add a little yogurt or frozen fruit. Keep going until you have the right consistency.

Cranberries, this little berry, grown in bogs across the US, isn’t just for Thanksgiving. Although you will want to stock up on these fresh berries when they are in season. Thankfully they freeze nicely, buy a few bags between November and December and stock up for a while.

This simple smoothie recipe can be whipped up in no time for breakfast and it’s an ideal way to start your day. Keep a bag of cranberries in the freezer and stock yogurt and orange juice on your fridge. Throw everything in the blender and you are ready to eat in minutes.
