I have been making a bouquet garni for most of our meals.
A bouquet garni is a little bundle of mixed fresh herbs that you add to the pot and let simmer. I have been adding it to all of our soups, stews, sauces and ragouts.
The most ordinary of Bolognese sauce becomes something out of this world when you let a little bouquet of herbs swimming in it.
Typical herbs for a bouquet garni are bay leaves, thyme and rosemary. I usually also add flat parsley, dragon, chives and sage.
But anything goes.
Just tie them all together with some butchers twine and drop in the pot.
After cooking time is done, you fish the bundle of herbs out of your dish.
That's it! The culinary heaven has opened its gates.
A bunch of herbs, who would have thought they could make such a difference in how good our food tastes.
Fresh herbs are really the best invention ever. They do not only taste good, they smell divine too.
Many herbs are so easy to grow in your garden, or on a balcony or window sill for that matter. All they need is good soil, regular water and lots of sunshine.
You'll love the scent that they spread around them as you touch them.
That’s why I also often put little herb bouquet on the table when making a table setting.
Good thing that herbs are plants that actually grow better when you cut them regularly.
And that’s what I do.
A little bouquet garni must be one of the best kept cooks secrets. I can't stress enough how much of a difference this makes to any dish.
Try it, you will be amazed.
There are times when I get really hungry in between meals and I find myself overeating and then I end up not being hungry for supper. That’s when these monster cookie protein bites are lifesavers! They hold your hunger over and are the perfect little snack. I also love eating them as a pre workout or post workout snack, or just when I need to satisfy my sweet tooth. They remind me of being a little girl again, licking the cookie dough off of the beaters after my mom baked some monster cookies😋 They really are so good. Plus, they are totally customizable!
Green Cabbage Slaw. It doesn’t sound like anything special, but OMG, there’s just something about this recipe! One of my good friends brought this to an (outdoor) potluck last weekend and it was phenomenal. It is a family recipe and she kindly gave me permission to post it. I have already had it twice this week (with pulled pork sliders and corned beef) and it went so well with both. It’s easy to pull together and I promise it will get RAVE reviews! Watch IGTV to watch the step-by-step video on how to make it. It's as easy as it is delicious!

Quick braised cannellini beans and kale is filling, delicious and ready in 30 minutes from start to finish. The perfect weeknight meal! It truly is super simple. Once you get the method down, it can be adapted in so many ways. First let’s talk about what braising is. Braising is a cooking method that uses both dry and wet heat. Typically we braise foods that take a while to cook, mostly meat but the same method can be applied to veggies. We just have to drastically cut down the cooking time.
A few weeks ago, I asked my Instagram followers what types of Monday Meals they wanted to see and received quite a few requests for quick dinners. So recently, I did a pantry haul and made these quick and delicious spicy tuna melts! I used leftover sourdough bread I had recently baked, a few cans of tuna, a Serrano pepper, cheddar cheese and some other everyday pantry items. The spicy tuna with the sharp cheddar cheese made the perfect crispy, melty sandwich. Serve these with carrot sticks, sliced cucumbers or celery stalks for an easy, 15-minuet meal anytime during the week! For more recipes like this, visit my Instagram @flourandfame or blog www.flourandfame.com!
Y'all know I like fast and easy recipes! Here is my Fast and Easy Banana Pudding. It is indeed, fast and easy, and delicious! So when it come to banana pudding, I know that many people have their own recipe. Lots of people have one that was handed down from generations before. My family has always made the traditional baked banana pudding with meringue on top. I still remember those crispy golden brown peaks of meringue above the creamy pudding. But somewhere through the years, I discovered banana pudding with whipped cream topping instead of meringue. Despite the taste memories that I loved, that whipped cream quickly became my favorite.Just so you know, this recipe uses boxed pudding. My mom is cringing right now. But it's fast and easy, remember? And it's so good.
Before you know you are going to be seeing loads of fresh husked corn in your local grocery stores. As we turn our thoughts and cravings to Spring and Summer food fare, corn is definitely on the top of my list.I happen to be one of those people that loves the sweet taste and crisp bite of fresh corn but I hate getting it stuck in may teeth. I am always the one at the dinner table with the knife taking my corn off the cob. So any recipe I can make with corn off the cob is my jam! I made this roasted salsa one night and it has become one of the favorite summer sides at barbecues and family weeknight dinners alike. This is a great side for a picnic or barbecue because there is no dairy in it. Just fresh lime juice, a little olive oil and of course some salt and pepper! So feel free to keep it out for a while people pick and graze with no worrying of spoilage. Cheers to Summer!

Good morning and a very happy Monday to you! How was your weekend? I know that many of you received a lot of snow this weekend. I do not want to rub it in, but not only did we not get snow it was 75 and sunny, it felt like a mild summer day. We actually sat outside for most of the day Sunday in the sun and read. We loved it and so did the pups.
Today, we're making BBQ Salmon with Braised Kale!
This Recipe is unbelievably simple and yet delicious. Using nothing but health supportive raw ingredients, it is an instant boost to the Cauliflower Soup or anything else you could think to put it on. The flavorful combination of Mint, Lemon, Garlic and Sun Dried Tomatoes with the satisfying crunch of raw Almonds; you can’t go wrong. This Tapenade takes 4 minutes to put together, using a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor then no worries! You can chop everything by hand. This will take you a bit more time… but not much! When I was in college, I would make this all of the time and hand chop. If you need to hand chop these ingredients, simply use slivered almonds to save time and effort. If you have to use whole almonds, place them in a Ziploc bag and crush them with a mallet or the bottom of a heavy sauce pot! I can’t wait to hear how you like this recipe! Please tell me what you would eat this Tapenade with yourself! Happy cooking!
This super tender slow cooked beef is perfect for a Sunday night dinner. It pairs so well with fluffy mashed potatoes, making it the ULTIMATE comfort meal. I used chuck roast for this recipe and by the time it was done cooking it fell right apart on my fork.Follow my Instagram @tikofoods for more yummy meals.
This fast and easy Mango, Avocado, and Feta Salad With Jalapeno Lime Dressing is bursting with flavor and perfectly refreshing for Summer!I'm always looking for new flavors to mix to make salad more creative. Last month I was going through my fridge to use up some fruits and veggies and stumbled across this combination of mango, avocado, green onions, and feta. For the dressing, I headed out to my little herb garden to see what could work. I ended up choosing fresh mint and basil. Since then I've made it at least once a week. I tried making the dressing with cilantro, but I decided I like the basil and mint better. I really love the combination, along with some lime juice and a little heat from a fresh jalapeno. This recipe makes four side salads or two meal sized salads. I've topped it with shrimp, fish, or chicken when I make it for a meal. Shrimp is definitely my favorite!

Chana Masala is a dish I recently stumbled upon yet fell in love with almost instantly! It's made with chickpeas, tomatoes and many warm spices. This heart pesto tortellini and sausage soup will sure will warm your soul. A bowl of soup is always my favorite comforting recipe. I enjoy soups specially on a rainy or cold day. Here in Los Angeles, it doesn't get that cold, but when it rains it is my excuse to dust off my cast iron pot and start cooking. This is a very easy recipe and very versatile, since you can add any veggies you like. I used mushrooms, onions, carrots, celery I had on hand and added a handful of baby spinach at the end. I used fresh pesto tortellini pasta for this recipe, but you may used cheese tortellini as well. I like to first sautee the onions, sausage and mushroom. Then add the carrots, celery and dry herbs before I add the veggie stock and cooked beans, then let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Then you may add the tortellini, pesto sauce and spinach. It is now ready to be served, add some freshly grated Pecorino Romano on top and slice of nice warm rustic bread.

Give it a try and fall in love!A quick and easy weeknight side dish, this Garlic Dijon Roasted Kohlrabi is a nice change from your standard veggie choices. Give it a try and fall in love!Last year around this time the pandemic was in its infancy and I think we all sort of thought (I know I thought this at least) that we would all have a few weeks at home wearing pajamas and baking bread and then we would all return to our offices and things would go on as they always have.Part of those early times included a fear of going to the grocery store (at least for me) and between that and my desire to use part of my stimulus to support local businesses, I decided to join a CSA for the first time.
A healthy and delicious appetizer for spring or Easter that everybunny will love.

We alway have a healthy supply of carrots in our fridge thanks to our wonderful Riverford veggie box delivery! Don’t miss out on a sweet treat this long weekend - create these little plant-based Carrot Cupcakes to celebrate Easter. Cupcakes are such a joy to bake - with their petite portions they take a fraction of the time a large cake takes to bake - which means you can enjoy them quicker, while reducing your energy consumption! My recipe has very little sugar so you prefer your Carrot Cupcakes on the sweeter side, just add a little more maple/agave syrup, rather than more raw brown sugar. A little syrup sweetness goes a looong way!To make your Carrot Cupcakes extra special adorn them with a dollop of cream cheese (or non-dairy soft cheese alternative), mixed with a little lemon juice. And coronate with a crystallised ginger gem.
Carrot cake has carrots, so it’s technically a vegetable, Seriously, though, I totally love carrot cake. When I was in culinary school, I was gifted the carrot cake recipe of the grandmother of my boss. And you know what I did...at some point through the years, I lost the recipe. And I have never been able to recreate it. I’ve come close, but I haven’t gotten it just where I want it. I’ll keep trying, but in the meantime, I have several other options for carrot goodies, including these delicious carrot cake cookies! My best friend from my culinary school internship actually provided me with the original recipe for these delicious carrot cake cookies. After a few tweaks, I’ve made them my own, and I love the result. One of my favorite things about these cookies is that they are delicious with or without the icing. I could totally gobble them up on their own! Also, in all seriousness, they are loaded with carrots, pecans, and raisins, so while they are not a go-to healthy option, they are slightly more guilt-free than some other dessert choices.
